I have always wanted learn to how to build a porch, but I never seem to
have the time and opportunity to do so. My father is not the type that
is always working on construction projects in a shed. My dad did not
have the inclination to take on any home repair projects.
He would
always hire contractors for anything that needed to be done. I have no
idea where my desire to learn how to build a porch came from, but I’m
pretty sure it did not come from my father. He did not know how to do
any home improvement, and would never have bothered to find out.
I have to admit that I was tempted to hire a contactor when I realized how difficult it was to learn how to build a porch. I thought that it would be easy to have someone build a porch for me, instead of going through difficult steps just to get an idea on how to build one.
Home renovations can be intimidating, especially if you happen to be someone like me, someone who has barely even lifted a hammer. How could I possibly learn how to build a porch? I don’t even know how to saw the wood.
Fortunately, my friend Glen was there to save me. Glen is someone who you might call a man’s man. He loves football, tools, beer, and other macho stuff. With men like him, it is practically a matter of pride to know things like how to build a porch.
Whatever he did not know, he knew where to look, and he quickly volunteered to help me with my project. He would come over almost every day to help me with the project. I would buy us a case of beer, and we would get to work, hammering and sawing the night away.
Later, he told me that he had never built a porch before, but he had done enough home projects to figure out how to build a porch. When I look at the result of our efforts, I can see that he had accomplished his promise to help me with my project. The porch looked as if it was made by experts.
